Pickleball in Salinas, California
Salinas has more pickleball than the City's main recreation pages suggest. Claremont Manor Park provides an in-city public court option, and the Salinas Family YMCA has used Sherwood Tennis Center for pickleball programming. The most substantial organized option is Chamisal Tennis & Fitness Club in the Salinas area at Corral de Tierra, where players have permanent pickleball courts, daily drop-in play, introductory classes, socials, and tournaments.
If you are arriving alone and want a scheduled game, Chamisal is the clearest option. For casual public play inside Salinas, Claremont Manor Park is worth checking, though it does not have a verified recurring organized-play schedule.
Where to Play Pickleball in Salinas
- Claremont Manor Park, 1220 San Fernando Dr., Salinas. This City of Salinas neighborhood park has two outdoor tennis courts that are also lined for pickleball. The setup uses the tennis courts rather than a dedicated pickleball complex, so it is most useful when you already have someone to play with. A recurring City-run open-play schedule is not published. Check the City of Salinas parks information for current park information before making a dedicated trip.
- Sherwood Tennis Center, 930 N. Main St., Salinas. The Salinas Family YMCA operates this City-owned racquet facility. The YMCA has used Sherwood for pickleball programming, including a pickleball and tennis clinic, though its current facility page is still primarily organized around tennis and does not publish a standing adult pickleball open-play schedule. Do not assume pickleball courts are available during every operating period. Contact the center at 831-758-3811 or [email protected] before going specifically for pickleball. Check Sherwood Tennis Center hours and contact information.
- Chamisal Tennis & Fitness Club, 185 Robley Rd., Corral de Tierra. This private club is outside the Salinas city limits but uses a Salinas mailing address and is a significant pickleball destination for the Salinas and Monterey Peninsula area. Chamisal currently advertises permanent pickleball courts, open court play, introductory classes, organized socials, clinics, tournaments, and daily drop-in play at 10:30 AM. Regular play is for pickleball, fitness, and tennis members and their guests. Some social events and tournaments are open to the public for a fee. Check Chamisal pickleball, drop-in play, and events.
New to Pickleball?
Chamisal is the clearest documented beginner option in the Salinas area. The club offers regular introductory pickleball classes in addition to clinics and organized play. Because normal court access is membership based, contact the club or check the current program before registering. Check Chamisal beginner pickleball programs.
The Salinas Family YMCA has also offered introductory pickleball programming at Sherwood Tennis Center, including youth pickleball and tennis clinics. These programs run in sessions rather than as a permanent weekly beginner class, so check the Sherwood Tennis Center or contact the Salinas Family YMCA at 831-758-3811 for the next pickleball offering.
If neither group option fits your schedule, use this site's Coaches section for individual instruction.
Open Play, Socials, and Pickleball Events
Chamisal has the most clearly documented recurring organized pickleball schedule near Salinas. The club currently lists drop-in play Monday through Sunday at 10:30 AM. It also runs pickleball socials on the second and fourth Fridays from April through October, along with tournaments and fundraising events. Regular club play is for members and their guests, though Chamisal states that selected social events and tournaments are open to the public for a fee.
Use the Chamisal pickleball page and current Chamisal events calendar for upcoming organized play and registration.
Inside Salinas, Sherwood Tennis Center has hosted YMCA pickleball programming, but a recurring adult open-play schedule is not currently published. Check directly with the YMCA for new clinics or scheduled sessions rather than relying on an older program date.
Visiting Salinas and Looking for a Game?
If finding other players matters more than staying inside the city limits, check Chamisal first. Its published daily 10:30 AM drop-in gives you a specific play window, though regular access is for members and their guests. Contact the club at 831-484-1135 before traveling if you are not a member and ask whether the day's play or another scheduled event is open to you.
For public play inside Salinas, Claremont Manor Park gives you a court option, but it is better for visitors who already have a partner or group because there is no verified recurring open-play timetable. Sherwood Tennis Center is another facility to call before your visit because the YMCA has offered pickleball there, but its current public facility schedule does not establish daily pickleball availability.
